2022 Chablis, Domaine de la Motte, Burgundy, France

Lots of lovely ripe peach and apricot aromas, caramelized apples and hot stones on the nose. Followed by generous, pronounced fruit on the palate with nectarine skins and baked peaches balanced firmly by a rounded, lemon-flesh acidity.

13% ABV. 

Domaine de la Motte is a 25 hectare family-run winery handed down from father to son since 1950. Now under the stewardship of Bernard Michaut, an ex-chef who works with his son Adrien and nephew Guillaume, his winery is small but perfectly formed and has benefited from a recent 1m euro investment. His wine-making is meticulous and the wines are benchmarks for the region. They are fastidious about producing wines which reflect the very particular terroirs of Chablis with vines on both Portlandien and Kimmeridgien soil, concentrated, mineral and very precise wines. It is no surprise they were named IWSC French Wine Producer of the Year 2013.

 "Apples and mineral, a classic Chablis, with the freshness on the nose repeated on the start of the palate. There is balance mid sweetness a touch of greengage with just a hint of melon the richer fruit backed by citrus the back palate steely the finish is long with chalk and flint. It makes a refreshing glass before dinner...yet there is enough mid richness not to be overpowered by salmon and chicken." Derek Smedley MW
